2JS Slave Assembly Rocks!
Posted by Mr Sloan on November 19, 2009
Our assembly was about slavery and it was abolished in 1865. Harriet Tubman was a really good person because she helped slaves escape from slavery. Sidra was Harriet Tubman. Sam and Yasin were slave owners and ran and caught the slaves and made them sit down. We sang Take this Hammer, The Drinking Gourd, Freedom Train and Harriet Tubman. Mr Sloan played the guitar. We have made a video and it’s on the blog.

This man looks very sad

Hello Year 2
I was one of the teachers who visited your school today and came to watch your assembly. I thought you were fantastic. You are very lucky to have such a lovely school and do very exciting lessons. Thank you for inviting us.

Dear Mr Sloan and the wonderful 2JS,
I wanted to thank you all for the extremely thought provoking assembly this morning. You were amazing and I particularly enjoyed the singing, especially as you entered the hall. You chose a very emotional topic and I thought you were fantastic.
Thank you very much for all your hard work, amazing costumes and brilliant film.

I’m glad to hear your assembly went so well – you obviously impressed lots of people. Your research about the Island of Coll looks fascinating too, it looks very beautiful, although I’m not sure I’d like to live there!
