Last week we thought about this question. We looked at photos of Queen Elizabeth 1st and thought about what we could learn from pictures. Have a look at these beautiful versions drawn by children from 2JS.
What can you tell about Queen Elizabeth from looking at these pictures? What else do you remember about her? Click the pictures for larger versions.
Mary Seacole was a nurse. She lived in Jamaica. She wanted to be like her mum. She practiced medicine on her dog and her doll. She went to London to visit her dads family. She went to Panama to help the injured soldiers in the Crimean war. It was when she was in Panama that she met her husband Edwin Seacole but just before their anniversary he died. The government would not give her money to help with the medicines and medical things she needed for the injured soldiers. Mary paid for everything herself which left her with no money. She had 2 houses. 1 was in London and 1 was in Jamaica. When she went back to Jamaica the soldiers visited her and made a festival for her. After the festival she died at home in her sleep.

This week in history we have been learning about Mary Seacole. I have started to make a timeline about the events in her life. So far, I’ve only added when she was born. Can you think of some other interesting things we could add?
Why not look at some of these interesting sources for ideas?
Information about Mary Seacole from the BBC
Mary Seacole information from Wikipedia
Poem about Mary Seacole by David Neita
Or why not watch this film about Mary Seacole? It’s quite grown-up but really interesting!
We looked at the work of Pablo Picasso on Friday and thought about what linked him with the other famous people we have learned about. What can you remember? Can you tell the story of this painting? Once you have left a comment about this painting, why not have a go at using this fun activity? Can you create your own cubist style picture?

This half term we will be starting a new history topic. We will be learning about lots of interesting people. Who is this, and what was he doing in the picture? When do you think the photo was taken? What are the clues? Write your answers as comments to this post.
